Banfi World

The vision
of a family

Founded in 1978 by the vision of Italian-American brothers John and Harry Mariani, Banfi represents a marriage of winemaking passion and technological innovation. Through collaboration with Ezio Rivella, one of Italy's most eminent winemakers, the land purchased in Montalcino was transformed into a crucible of quality and potential. The acquisition of the historic Piedmontese winery Bruzzone subsequently further enriched the portfolio, integrating the sparkling wine tradition of Piedmont into the Banfi world.

Banfi Piemonte

Banfi Piemonte, born together with the Montalcino winery, embodies the same pioneering spirit, approaching the production of classic methods and other Piedmontese wines. By acquiring historic local wineries, Banfi combines tradition and innovation, enhancing the Piedmont terroir. Here, vineyards are cultivated with respect for the environment, producing high-quality sparkling wines, Barbera and Gavi. Each wine is a tribute to tradition and innovation, making Banfi Piemonte a laboratory of ideas and winemaking excellence

Terroir alone is not enough

Banfi is synonymous with Brunello di Montalcino, thanks to constant research into Sangiovese and everything that gravitates around it.

The winery has conducted numerous studies on the varietal in the vineyard and cellar, pursuing the goal of combining quality and innovation. One of the cornerstones of this philosophy is zoning, which began in 1980 and optimizes the cultivation of Sangiovese in the different areas of the estate.

Two years later, a clonal selection project dedicated to Sangiovese was initiated to identify the most representative clones.

This led to the creation of the Poggio alle Mura line and, in 2007, the birth of the Horizon winemaking area. The Horizon winemaking facility, accessible to visitors thanks to innovative and welcoming architectural solutions, such as the bridge over the entire production process, symbolizes this openness.
This state-of-the-art fermentation space enhances the expression of different grape varieties and their terroirs, especially Sangiovese.

While the vineyards constitute the soul of Horizon, the winery represents its beating heart. Designed to enhance the integrity of the chosen grapes, best embodying the Horizon philosophy, the Banfi winery redefines the quality boundaries of its wine, setting a new production standard.

Therefore, the approach to production concerns not only the raw materials and terroir but also the materials chosen for the stages of production. The gaze goes beyond custom in pursuit of continuous improvement.
