2023
THE 2023 VINTAGE
The winter was mild, with temperatures slightly above seasonal averages. The first few days of April were characterised by episodes of returning cold weather with some damage to budburst which only marginally affected the Sangiovese and Merlot, and spared the Cabernet Sauvignon. In the first four months of the year, rainfall was slightly lower than average. In the months of May and June, precipitation was extremely heavy, reaching two hundred millimetres of cumulative rainfall and twenty-eight rainy days out of sixty. Once the early summer months had passed, providentially, the weather pattern underwent a radical change with excellent sunshine and high temperatures. September was characterised by above-average temperatures and abundant northern winds with an almost total absence of rain. Harvesting of the Sangiovese began on the thirteenth of September while that of the Cabernet Sauvignon on the twentieth.
TASTING NOTES
Red colour with mauve highlights. The fresh, sweet and fruity aromas of blackberry and ripe cherry are accompanied by delicate spicy notes of cocoa, tobacco and liquorice. An elegant and balanced wine, with a full, round structure balanced by great softness; enveloping, with a long and persistent finish.

THE 2022 VINTAGE
The growing season began at the usual time following a winter typical of our area, with minimum temperatures below freezing in the first three months of the year. Budburst occurred a few days ahead of local standards. The first four months of the year were characterised by below-average rainfall, with about one hundred and seventy millimetres from January to April. Spring was characterised by a dry climate with temperatures a few degrees above the seasonal average, particularly in the month of May. In summer, the lack of rain and scorching temperatures marked the months of June, July and much of August. In the red varieties, thanks to the rain at the end of August and early September, there was no dehydration of the grapes and good diurnal temperature ranges favoured fine aromatic and acidic synthesis. Harvesting of the Merlot began on the second of September, that of the Sangiovese in the following week, whilst Cabernet Sauvignon, a later ripening variety, began to be harvested on the first of October.

2021
THE 2021 VINTAGE
Following a mild winter with little rainfall, the growing season began at the usual time for the Tuscany region. On 8 April, a late frost with temperatures below 4°C affected the lower and middle sections of Montalcino’s vineyard area, damaging the shoots, significantly delaying the plants' phenological development and reducing yields by approximately 10–15% at harvest time. The varieties most affected were those that bud early, such as Sangiovese and Chardonnay, but almost the entire estate’s range of grape varieties was affected by this weather event. Spring and the month of June were characterised by low rainfall, but mild temperatures in line with the seasonal average; from mid-July, temperatures began to rise without ever becoming scorching. August and the whole of September proved to be very hot; during these months, above-average temperatures, a steady southerly breeze and limited rainfall allowed us to harvest the white varieties slightly later than usual, though not as late as had been anticipated in the spring months. The white wines produced in this vintage achieved optimal ripeness, very interesting aromatic profiles and good acidity, particularly in the Casalappi vineyards. For the red varieties, the weather conditions over the last two months led to a slight dehydration of the grapes, resulting in a high concentration of sugars and polyphenols. The harvest of the red varieties began in early September, with Sangiovese following about two weeks later, and the harvest concluded in mid-October with the late-ripening varieties. Quality was good across all the estate’s areas, with outstanding results in the higher-altitude areas of the Montalcino region – which were less affected by the spring frost – and at the Casalappi estate on the coast.

A warm vintage which, thanks to good temperature ranges and harvesting choices, allowed us to obtain structured wines of great varietal freshness. Red in colour with mauve highlights. Fresh, very sweet, fruity aromas of blackberry and ripe cherry, with prominent floral and spicy notes of vanilla, tobacco and liquorice; the structure is full and round, with characteristics of great smoothness and elegance; a great finish and good balance.
