October 2009, USA - Important new awards come from overseas for the Belnero 2005, Castello Banfi's latest label, an expression of the company's strong and indissoluble bond with the terroir of Montalcino and its main grape variety, Sangiovese.
On the occasion of the American Critics Challenge International Wine Competition 2009, the Belnero 2005 wins the excellent 'Critics Platinum' result.
The jury, composed of wine journalists, reviewed this wine as 'Very typical and rich in fruity hints, enriched by more complex and spicy notes. In presenting an innovative style, this wine remains genuinely Tuscan, at the same time complex and captivating'.
Excellent results, finally, also for the Hints Red 2006 and the Royal Rose 2007which both won 'Critics Silver'.

Precious fruit of Banfi's 30-year commitment to quality in its constant pursuit of excellence, it was awarded the excellent score of 90 points in Wine Enthusiast, one of the most influential international wine magazines.
Produced from predominantly Sangiovese grapes, the emblematic variety of Montalcino tradition, the Belnero presented itself right from the start with a great vintage, 2005, which provided elegance and expressiveness, together with an important and well-balanced structure.
"Belnero is the new wine from Castello Banfi that offers a beautiful aromatic complex, with hints of blueberry, plum, wet earth, tobacco and spices. The slight note of over-ripeness is well integrated with fresh fruit aromas and good acidity. This excellent Sangiovese-based wine is reminiscent of many of the pleasant characteristics of Brunello di Montalcino'.
The Poggio alle Mura 2004the prestigious Brunello di Montalcino DOCG produced from Sangiovese grapes from in-house clonal selection, won the Gold Medal at the important German wine competition 'Mundus Vini'.
Fruit of one of the best vintages in recent years, the Poggio alle Mura 2004 is a very intense red colour with garnet hues.
The aromas are sweet, spicy, complex, enriched by notes of vanilla, pipe tobacco and coffee. The structure is large, soft and ample at the same time, with firm but persuasive tannins. Great persistence in the finish and excellent ageing potential.
