Just over a year after Banfi Società Agricola Srl obtained the Equalitas certification, one of the company’s most prestigious and historic wines Brunello Poggio all'Oro 2016, is the first Brunello to reach the goal of the Equalitas Sustainable Product Certification.
The certification, issued by CSQA, ensures that this Brunello complies with the requirements of the Equalitas standard and forms part of the broader program of actions and objectives of the company. Strategic Sustainability Plan, which guides the company’s decisions and is reflected in the Sustainability Report.
As with the Equalitas – Sustainable Organizations standard, the standard
Equalitas – Sustainable Products evaluates different areas of business management across all stages of the production process.
- Good agricultural practices, analyzing aspects such as soil and fertility management, irrigation, crop protection, and harvesting.
- good cellar and bottling practices, analyzing activities such as harvesting, vinification, and bottling, cleaning and sanitization procedures for facilities and equipment, and issues related to packaging;
- good economic and social practices, considering topics such as personnel management, employee training, and relationships with the local community;
- Good communication practices, including, among other aspects, the presence of a sustainability report and policies supporting corporate communication;
- environmental sustainability indicators, analyzing various biodiversity indexes, carbon footprint, and water footprint.
