{"id":12317,"date":"2009-07-02T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2009-07-01T22:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.banfi.it\/uncategorized\/castello-banfi-e-il-jazz-wine-in-montalcino-xii-edizione\/"},"modified":"2025-06-04T13:22:15","modified_gmt":"2025-06-04T11:22:15","slug":"banfi-castle-and-jazz-wine-in-montalcino-xii-edition","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.banfi.it\/eng\/castello-banfi-e-il-jazz-wine-in-montalcino-xii-edizione\/","title":{"rendered":"Castello Banfi and the 'Jazz &amp; Wine in Montalcino: xii edition"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>David Liebman, Cedar Walton, Al Foster and many other 'bigs' at the Jazz &amp; Wine in Montalcino festival, which kicks off on 15 July.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Jazz &amp; Wine in Montalcino, now in its 12th edition, is one of the longest-running and most prestigious events in the national framework of jazz music festivals.<\/p>\n<h2>Jazz &amp; Wine in Montalcino<\/h2>\n<p>The festival was born in 1998 thanks to the collaboration of Castello Banfi, the well-known winery of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.banfi.it\/eng\/news\/what-to-see-near-montalcino-castello-banfi-wine-resort\/\">Montalcino<\/a>deeply linked to the territory and its traditions, with the cultural association Jazz &amp; Image of Rome and the Municipality of Montalcino. As usual, this year's programme will be rich and heterogeneous, and will range over different musical languages, a sign of special attention to the different interpretations of Jazz.<\/p>\n<h3>The programme<\/h3>\n<p>Wednesday <strong>15 July<\/strong> the opening concert, which will be held within the evocative walls of Castello Banfi and will feature the <strong>\"Salerno Trio<\/strong> (Guglielmi, Deidda, Vigorito), a new and unusual trio consisting of sax, piano and double bass.<\/p>\n<p>Starting <strong>16 July<\/strong> the festival will move to the splendid 14th-century fortress of Montalcino with the multifaceted <strong>Geg\u00e8 Telesforo<\/strong> and its <strong>\"Groove Master Quintet<\/strong>a brilliant synthesis of funk, swing, be bop combined with the typical Blue Note sound of the sixties.<\/p>\n<p>Friday <strong>17 July<\/strong> one of Italy's greatest saxophonists will take the Montalcino stage, <strong>Romano Pratesi<\/strong> and its quartet, the <strong>\"Rubber Band, feat. Liebman, Humair, Tavolazzi\".<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>The first week will end with<strong> \"Gary Smulyan &amp; Riccardo Fassi Quartet\".<\/strong> who will perform on Saturday 18 July, in a concert in which the unique and utterly personal sound of Gary Smulyan's saxophone is combined with the great creativity of Riccardo Fassi on piano, and which will be followed on Sunday <strong>19 July<\/strong>the funky, melodic hard bop touch of the great pianist <strong>\"Cedar Walton<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>\u201c<\/em>Jos\u00e9 Luis Guti\u00e9rrez Quartet'.<\/strong> will open the second week, Thursday <strong>23 July<\/strong>with an innovative and original sound, a fusion of free jazz expression and traditional Iberian music (free admission).<\/p>\n<p>On <strong>24 July<\/strong> then it will be the turn of the swinging sax of <strong>'Ice Cream Ray'<\/strong> in his latest work, a tribute to all his musical heroes.<\/p>\n<p>On <strong>25 July<\/strong> big closing concert with <strong>'Al Foster'<\/strong>the great American drummer who for many years collaborated with Miles Davis.
