CLIMATE, GRAPE, WINE CELLAR, AND MARKET: What does the future of Sangiovese look like?

This is the topic of the second edition of the Summer School by Sanguis Jovis-Alta Scuola del Sangiovese, a project promoted by the Banfi Foundation

The second edition of the Sanguis Jovis Summer School - Alta Scuola del Sangiovese, the first research centre on the most cultivated grape variety in Italy, starts on September 10th. After the great success of the previous edition, the central topic of this Summer School will be extremely topical and strongly linked - but not only - to the current climate change:Climate, grape, wine cellar, market: what will the Sangiovese of the future be like?

Professor Attilio Scienza and Professor Alberto Mattiacci, respectively President and Director of Sanguis Jovis, from the top of their recognized excellence in science and education, will guarantee, as in the past, the absolute qualitative and interdisciplinary high level of the workshop. The President of the Banfi Foundation, Rodolfo Maralli, states that "The project that the Banfi Foundation is promoting, was born in 2017 in the symbolic territory of Sangiovese, Montalcino, with the desire to increase and spread the culture of this extraordinary vine, through scientific research, communication of knowledge and high education".

September 10th-14th2018, OCRA, Officina Creativa dell’Abitare (Via Boldrini 4, Montalcino-Siena). The second edition of the Summer School is planned for twenty students (10 students, whohave not graduated more than 18 months, and 10 experts), the admission takes place with a selection announcement. The participation of the 10 students will be fully covered by the scholarships offered by local companies and institutions. During the lessons, led by professors and experts that will explain their reports and experiences to the class, we will discuss from an oenological, agronomic and marketing perspective how the climate changes and how is undoubtedly modifying the production of wine, more specifically the Sangiovese.

We will start with the topic "The effects of climate change on wine" and we will continue on Tuesday, September 11thwith the issue "The impact of climate change on the physical-chemical and biological characteristics of soils and on vine diseases". On 12thof September, we will talk about "Interventions of cultivation techniques for climate change mitigation with a view on sustainability", while on September 13thwe will examine the issue from an oenological perspective "Climate change on the composition of wine, interventions microbiological and oenological. On Friday, 14thwe will entirely dedicate the last day of the Summer School to marketing and communication:" New climate, new markets? ".
