A wine representing a first entry into the legendary Bolgheri zone by Banfi, presented officially at the most recent Vinitaly.
With its new elegantly packaged wine, Aska, Banfi arrives in Bolgheri: a legendary territory, known throughout the world for its prestigious wines, and a growing denomination. Banfi's acquisition of a 5 hectare vineyard in this area represents a new and enthusiastic project, rounding out the offerings of its Montalcino estate and based on the same high standards or production. This wine speaks of the roots of a legend: Aska, in fact, in Etruscan means a wine vessel. This ancient and fascinating population that occupied Tuscany millenia ago, used the aska to contain the aromas and nectar of their wine and olive oil production. But the aska was also a touchstone, used to protect the human emotions and sentiments received from Cautha and Semla, the Etruscan gods of the sun and moon, represented by the the two luminous discs that have defined night and day over the epocs In the elegant label of Aska, we find the symbols of this legend. The carefully selected Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc grapes are vinified with skin contact in stainless steel fermenters. The wine is then aged in barrels for about 10 months, followed by appropriate bottle rest before release. The taste of this wines speaks clearly of Bolgheri Rosso DOC; soft yet intense, ruby red with hints of violet; it bears elegant aromas of toasted wood, coffee, spices and red berries. On the palate, the wine has excellent structure, harmonious, with a light vein of acidity, which makes it fresh and balanced. It is the perfect accompaniment to hearty roasts and game, as well as hard, aged cheeses.
“We are very pleased with our work in Bolgheri,” said Banfi Managing Director Enrico Viglierchio, “where we arrive with the utmost respect for all those who have worked here before. We consider it fundamental to bring our experience from Montalcino to this special place. ”
