“Poggio all’Oro” Brunello di Montalcino Riserva, the wine that embodies Castello Banfi’s pursuit of excellence, after five years gap, is back with vintage 2004, a harvest that reached the high quality and the elegance which are indispensable for producing this fantastic Brunello di Montalcino Riserva.
Our long distinguished “Poggio all’Oro” vineyard was the first planted with our initial clonal selection of Sangiovese grapes on a site of an existing vineyard. A singular bottling from this vineyard, aged as a Riserva, is dedicated in exceptional vintages - of which we determined nine in the past quarter century! A choice of consistency that, since its very first debut twenty-five years ago, with the extraordinary 1985 vintage, has definitely contributed to the success of its exclusive character.
The “Poggio all’Oro” vineyard is located on a hill facing south-west at 250 meters on the sea level where, since ever, the Sangiovese finds the ideal conditions to express the highest levels. The manual harvested grapes, perfectly ripened, are carefully selected and vinified for producing this outstanding Brunello di Montalcino Riserva.
The long wait has been fully repaid by a 2004 Poggio all’Oro extremely elegant and powerful, perfect for long aging, which will see its official debut during next Vinitaly (Pav. 8/D6).
