(Montalcino, September 6th, 2010) - Harvest 2010 on the Castello Banfi estate started Monday, August 30th, with the picking of Pinot Grigio followed by Chardonnay.
"A long winter, with snowfall and copious rainfall which continued over the spring and beginning of summer, characterized this current year". Enrico Viglierchio, General Manager of Castello Banfi, reports "Summer was marked by strong temperature variations which delayed the ripening of the grapes. Vineyard managers and winemakers considered the maturation of the early varieties, such as Pinot Grigio and Chardonnay, being perfect right now and decided to start with the picking. Despite the rain, thanks to the excellent work in the vineyard, the grapes are healthy and of superb quality. Also in terms of quantity, we are expecting a good crop.”
